A very enjoyable evening in Valfabbrica.

After dinner we popped into Mario's Bar.

In the back room The Lads were setting up for 9 pin billiards, the legendary Goriziana.

Often known as The Thinking Man's bar billiards the game is played without pockets on the table.

After overnight at Camere Villa Verde & its enchanting lady owner, we were all set for the Walk to Assisi.

Time to meet up with Barbara, who was transferring our luggage today:

The usual great views.

Back to Biscina, where the walk started yesterday:

And soon we could glimpse Assisi in the far distance:

We stopped - as so many have before us - at Padre Pio:

The Padre & his Pals

One last climb... & we had reached the Basilica de San Francesco:

---

As I was wandering along & after a couple of weeks rambling along The Way, it was easy to feel in a bubble far from Home & far from the 21st Century.

But as Alissa Timoshenka wrote:

Today's The Times newspaper has the Obituary for Robert Hunter.

He collaborated with Dylan on songs including Silvio, one of Bob's favourite songs:

But Hunter is best-known as the lyricist for The Grateful Dead.

How perfect for today as we walked in the footsteps of St Francis were the lines from Ripple:

Just by our hotel... There was the Fountain.

Not made by the hands of men

  1. Very much enjoy your descriptions of each stage, especially the hard days with details on altitude and distance. Looking at this route for Fall 2020, will need to get some hills under my belt before then, for sure! Grazie!
